Because at the end of the day, looking good shouldn’t have to be a luxury.
Why this business is necessary
499 wordsWardrobe panic, otherwise known as the feeling of having nothing to wear despite a full closet, is something everyone experiences. Studies indicate that Americans, in general, can expect to run into this issue roughly 2,600 times within their lifetime. However, it's important to note that some feel it more than others. When it comes to wardrobe panic, college students are the primary victims. Data reports that young adults spend around $655 on clothing annually, just to keep up with the demands of an active social, professional, and academic agenda. Yet, being a student means you're far from your financial prime. Whether it be football season, Greek life events, holidays, birthdays, career fairs, or job interviews, as a student, these constant events make it impossible for anyone's wardrobe to feasibly meet demand. Combating wardrobe panic typically implies turning to alternative means, such as "borrowing from a friend" or opting into secondhand clothing rental and resale platforms. The first alternative isn't sustainably effective on account of wardrobe diversity, sizing differences, style discrepancies, and long-term needs. On the other hand, renting or purchasing clothing through platforms such as Rent the Runway, Nuuly, Depop, and Pickle can present a few disadvantages, namely a lack of affordability and accessibility, difficulty finding outfits tailored to campus identity, and slow turnaround. These platforms require expensive subscriptions and lack personalization, and more importantly, almost none are uniquely catered to students. Chifforo was developed to deliver a solution to this problem by providing students access to a consumer marketplace of apparel buyers, sellers, borrowers, and lenders, a money-saving alternative to existing fashion renting services. Chifforo will foster a personalized experience for all of its users by connecting them with others from their community looking to buy, rent, and sell outfits of their own, and giving them the chance to join a curated closet network depending on the college area they're based in. More specifically, Chifforo's network is designed to link app users by area depending on their college, customizing their feed to display apparel more relevant to their environment—whether that's sports merchandise, Greek clothing, or college-themed apparel. While existing competitors have good things to offer, they fail to meet essential criteria when it comes to student demographics. Whether it's a matter of affordability, fulfillment speed, platform features, clothing versatility, or inventory, Chifforo caters to students of all types. No expensive subscriptions. No lengthy delivery times. No hassle finding something that fits your life on campus. Chifforo is a peer-to-peer network, created by students for students, meaning that, unlike national platforms where you're renting, purchasing, or selling to a stranger in another state, Chifforo is built on collegiate verification. By signing up with a student email, an extra layer of social accountability is incorporated, one that simply doesn't exist on other apps. Meaning, you aren't conducting business with a stranger; you're conducting business with a fellow peer, a classmate, maybe even a neighbor. Over 800 Auburn University students are already on the waitlist. The demand isn't pending, it's here.
