Mission
97 wordsSORVY's mission is to revolutionize the global aquarium industry by shifting from depending on chemicals to natural balance. We upcycle invasive starfish (major ecological threat) into a self-controlling material made out of porous magnesium-calcite that autonomously stabilizes water pH and mineral levels. By replacing the stressful and environmentally burdening standard of continuous chemical dosing with a single cartridge inspired by nature, we build self-balancing aquatic environments. Ultimately, SORVY aims to protect fragile ocean ecosystems, reduce marine waste, and give hobbyists and professionals to experience the true healing power of aquarium life without the burden of constant management.
Why this business is necessary
492 wordsThe global reef aquarium market is estimated to grow to $13.4 billion by 2033 with a CAGR of 10.57%. However, the market is built on a fundamentally flawed paradigm. To maintain aquariums, users have to intervene by continuously dosing numerous chemicals. Currently, 70% to 90% of high-spend users abandon the hobby within 12 months. They leave because maintaining a closed marine ecosystem is stressful, and prone to catastrophic pH crashes. I came up with SORVY to change the industry from continuous chemical dosing with a self-controlling biomaterial that balances water automatically. Competitors such as CaribSea and Seachem are focusing on instable nature of the market. They sell strip-mined coral reefs for aragonite and numerous buffers of pH, calcium, magnesium. They are simply selling temporary chemical products. This continuous consumption model makes a massive barrier for users to maintain and enter. In nature, stability is maintained by dynamic equilibrium, not manual chemical dosing. Oceans control themselves through the natural dissolution of porous marine skeletons. SORVY replicates this exact mechanism of nature. We process the porous calcium-carbonate structure of starfish into a self-releasing biomaterial. Our product will naturally increase pH-levels and release essential minerals based on the water's exact needs. This would eliminate the need for current chemical management. Our supply chain transforms an environmental crisis into a huge advantage. Governments are currently spending millions removing and incinerating invasive starfish. The irony is that these starfish are made out of the exact porous magnesium-calcite minerals the reef industry desperately needs. Competitors strip-mine natural coral reefs to harvest these minerals. SORVY monetizes a government liability. We remove the government's incineration process, saving public funds and completely eliminating the heavy carbon footprint from incineration. By redirecting this international waste stream, we secure a virtually limitless supply of premium raw material. We upcycle this problem right into a high-margin product. Furthermore, as our biomaterial naturally dissolves over a 6-8-month cycle to release essential minerals, it creates a built-in replenishment schedule. This leads to a highly predictable recurring revenue. This product is the intact solution of four years of trial and error. As the founder, I guided this technology through three rigorous pivots. We tested starfish structures in B2B wastewater and shower filters. We learned the exact hydrodynamic limits of the material before perfecting its use for a closed-system environment. Our competitive moat lies in our processing technology. Stripping organic waste from starfish without collapsing their calcium-carbonate structure requires expertise. If the temperature is too high, the structure calcines and loses its vital porosity. If it’s too low, organic waste rot and destroy water quality. Therefore, competitors will face significant obstacles attempting to replicate our material we have already conquered. Competitors are built entirely on liquid chemical mixing infrastructure. It will require significant time to acquire biomaterial processing facilities and specialized materials expertise required to pivot. Ultimately, these advantages give SORVY the potential to disrupt the current market. We are perfectly positioned to succeed on a global scale.
