Mission
100 wordsAutomatic AI is making training technology accessible to every athlete. Backed by $500K in funding, 7K users and 24 market partners, our flagship product Ball AI is a mobile application that uses in-house, advanced computer vision to provide stats and real-time feedback during basketball workouts. Ball AI eliminates the need for expensive equipment, complex setups and static installations, allowing athletes to train with just their ball, hoop and phone. While we are deeply focused on basketball today, we plan on expanding into other sports such as golf, baseball and pickleball, bringing accessible, high-quality training to even more athletes, anytime, anywhere.
Why this business is necessary
497 wordsOur CEO Julien Bourgeois grew up in Kenner, Louisiana with dreams of playing college basketball. He came from a middle class family and went to public magnet schools. Nothing was handed to him. Like millions of young athletes, his progress came from repetition, spending hours every day after school in his driveway getting shots up. The work was there, but the resources were not. His family could not afford private trainers, club teams, or expensive equipment. Private trainers tried to charge up to $1,000 a week, and shooting machines alone would have cost $10K–$20K. There was no real way to track his progress or get feedback to guide improvement. Most tracking systems were built for elite programs, not everyday athletes like himself, often requiring fixed installations, special hardware, or sensor setups. Existing alternatives fail to solve this. Products like smart basketballs and rebounding machines require upfront hardware costs. Enterprise systems are accurate but cost thousands and are limited to high-level programs. Consumer apps gained early traction but have stagnated, lack modern AI capabilities, and do not support real team or program workflows. At some point, Julien realized this was not just his experience. Over 900 million aspiring athletes across sports are disadvantaged. They have the work ethic, but not the tools. Julien called this the sports training accessibility gap. And because of this gap, Automatic AI exists and is thriving. Recognizing this gap, Julien taught himself how to code in high school and started building what would become Ball AI. What started as something he was building for himself turned into something much bigger. Today, Automatic AI has raised over $500,000 in funding and built a team including CMO Finn Farrah, CTO Mark Webster, several AI engineers, and celebrity trainer Kyle Travis. We have also secured market partnerships with SwyshDen, Hunter Rhodes, and Jae Taft. Ball AI removes the barriers, turning phones into real training systems. No equipment, no setup, no installations. It tracks performance and gives real-time feedback during workouts so any athlete can train with real data anywhere. We are seeing the impact. Thousands of athletes use Ball AI every day in their driveways, gyms, and courts. Kids are using it with their parents, sharing workouts, and showing it to their coaches. We have athletes using Ball AI across the entire world. For many of them, this is the first time they have had real feedback. Many cannot afford trainers or expensive programs. Trainers and coaches can now offer more to their players. Independent trainers can give their athletes tools that were previously only available at elite facilities. Teams can manage players and track progress without spending thousands. This is personal. Julien is now seeing himself in the athletes using Ball AI every day. Kids in their driveways putting in the same reps, but now with access to tools he never had. Automatic AI exists to close the sports training accessibility gap and give every athlete access to the tools they need to actually improve.
