Why this business is necessary
435 wordsStreet vendors are a cornerstone to the local economy, especially South LA. However, they face everyday challenges such as inconsistent foot traffic, unpredictable income, and limited visibility to potential customers. Many vendors rely on chance to make sales instead of a consistent demand, which makes it difficult to run their business or support their families. Regardless of doing business in a large market, vendors are underrepresented and overlooked in the food industry. This is something I’ve personally noticed in my local community where vendors struggle to gain consistent visibility despite high demand. In Los Angeles, street vending is a $504 million dollar industry with thousands of small businesses contributing to local communities and economies. However, due to the lack of accessible tools that connect vendors with customers in real time, this is overlooked. Many customers struggle to locate vendors easily which creates a visibility gap that directly impacts vendor income and growth. In addition, there is recent consumer behavior to take advantage of. There is a growing demand for affordable, convenient, and culturally diverse food options. Especially since mainstream delivery platforms are becoming increasingly expensive that only support big-named brands. Many consumers are actively seeking alternatives that are both budget friendly and community driven. Street vendors meet this demand but lack digital accessibility to reach wider audiences. Marketa addresses this gap by providing a platform that allows customers to discover street vendors in real time through features such as GPS tracking, digital menus, and notifications when vendors are nearby. Vendors can easily join the platform and update their location in real time through the app. This not only increases vendor visibility but creates a more reliable flow of customers, helping vendors be more stabilized and grow their income. In addition, Marketa is designed to be inclusive. Unlike traditional platforms that have strict requirements or support big businesses that mark-up the cost of their food products, Marketa supports small vendors. Whether they are food trucks, food stands, on the go, Marketa supports these hustlers by offering low barriers to entry and low fees. The platform prioritizes community over profit, ensuring vendors have full control over their pricing and earnings. As more vendors and customers join, the platform becomes valuable which creates a strong network effect that strengthens its long-term impact. In the end, this business is necessary because it fills the gap between supply and demand in an untapped market. It empowers small vendors, supports local economies, and provides consumers with easier access to authentic, convenience, and affordable food options. With this platform, Marketa solves a practical problem that creates a more inclusive and connected community.
