Mission

68 words

Our mission is to eliminate the need for batteries by enabling electronics to generate continuous power directly from ambient humidity. Using advanced material systems inspired by protein nanowires, we are developing Air-Gen technology to support energy-autonomous devices that operate indefinitely without maintenance. We aim to transform how electronics are powered by unlocking scalable, reliable energy at the edge, making distributed systems more sustainable, resilient, and accessible across industries.

Why this business is necessary

352 words

Modern electronics are fundamentally limited by how they are powered. Billions of devices today rely on batteries that require frequent replacement, create high maintenance costs, and restrict deployment locations. This challenge is especially critical for distributed technologies such as environmental sensors, infrastructure monitoring systems, and smart building networks, where replacing or recharging batteries is often impractical, expensive, or impossible. Existing alternatives like solar or vibration-based energy harvesting are situational and unreliable. Solar requires consistent light exposure and fails indoors or under low-light conditions. Vibration-based systems depend on mechanical movement that may not exist. There is no reliable, continuous power source for low-power electronics operating across real-world conditions, until now. Air-Gen generates electricity directly from ambient humidity using hydrogel-based devices. These systems produce sustained electrical output without sunlight, motion, or external inputs. Because humidity is ubiquitous in the environment, Air-Gen enables a new class of energy generation that works continuously across a wide range of conditions. By enabling electronics to operate independently of batteries or wired power, Air-Gen significantly reduces maintenance costs, improves system reliability, and opens deployment possibilities in previously inaccessible locations. The scale of connected devices is growing rapidly, from smart cities to industrial IoT, creating a massive market for autonomous, maintenance-free energy solutions. Additionally, reducing battery waste addresses an urgent environmental need, positioning Air-Gen as a sustainable technology for the future. Early prototypes have demonstrated continuous energy generation under ambient conditions, including directly powering LEDs using only energy harvested from the air. This proves the technology’s feasibility and validates a clear path from scientific discovery to real-world system integration. Air-Gen can be deployed as a component for manufacturers of IoT devices, smart infrastructure, and sensors. Its low-cost, battery-free operation creates compelling value for customers while establishing a defensible position in a market with limited alternatives. Future iterations will expand into additional device classes, unlocking even larger markets and solidifying Air-Gen’s leadership in ambient energy solutions. This technology represents a shift from energy storage to continuous, ambient energy generation at the device level. By redefining how electronics are powered, Air-Gen enables a future where devices operate seamlessly, sustainably, and without interruption.
